Following the guidelines of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD), your child should visit the dentist by his/her 1st birthday.  When your child arrives at our office with you, we want to do everything we can to give your child a positive experience to build on.  Pediatric Dentistry has undergone tremendous changes in the past several years.  These changes have most definitely been for the better.  Still, many parents may have some apprehensions for the child or misconceptions based on their past experiences.  It is important to us to address your concerns as well as put your child to ease during your first visit.

No matter what your experience has been, this is an opportunity to help your child to "get off on the right foot".  When talking to your child, treat the future visit in a positive, excited fashion.  Be honest with your child, but be careful not to alarm your child with discomforting thoughts if you have not yet learned about our special approach.  It is best if you refrain from using words around your child that might cause unnecessary fear, such as needle, pull, drill or hurt.  The office makes a practice of using words that convey the same message, but are pleasant and non-frightening to the child. Feel free to visit our office before your child's appointment if you wish.

Parents may accompany their child to the treatment area if they wish to do so, however, if your child is over the age of 3, we ask that you allow them to accompany our staff, by themselves, through the dental experience.  We are all highly experienced in helping children overcome anxiety.  Separation anxiety is not uncommon in children, so please try not to be concerned if your child exhibits some negative behavior.  This is normal and will soon diminish.  Studies and experience have shown that most children over the age of  3 react more positively when permitted to experience the dental visit on their own and in an open environment designed for children.

We strive to make each and every visit to our office a fun one!

For your convenience when visiting our office, please print the New Patient Health History Form and the Patient Agreement, complete the information and bring it with you to your first visit.

To print the form you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader.  If you do not have Adobe Acrobat, please click here to download it for free to your computer.
